Chengdu a csípős szecsuáni ételeiről és a pandákról híres - mi megtapasztaltuk mindkettőt ma.
Chengdu is famous for its Sichuan spicy dishes and pandas - we experienced both today.
Panda központ | Panda breeding center
Utána olvastunk és a pandák reggel aktívak, így korán keltünk, hogy nyitásra a parkba érjünk (7:30-ra). Ez a központ a legnagyobb a világon, kb 60 óriás pandájuk van, és folyamatosan szaporítják őket. Első állomásunk a bébipandákhoz vezetett, szerencsére ott még nem voltak sokan. Jól láthattuk a néhány hetes piciket az inkubátorokban, az egyik pöttöm még álmodott is!
Reading up on the panda’s we learned that they are active in the early mornings so we woke up early and got to the park for opening (7:30). This center is the largest panda research center in the world with 60 giant pandas and an active effort to breed them. Our first stop was to the baby pandas, luckily there wasn’t a large crowd yet. We got to see the small ones which were only a few weeks old and one of them was even dreaming!

Ez után az egyik panda-ovi következett, ahol 5 bocs volt a kinti területükön, ebből kettő a fák tetején evett, de a másik három intenzíven játszott! Mire észbekaptunk már hatalmas tömeg lett körülöttünk és a fényképezőgép aksija is a felére csökkent, pedig ekkor lett csak 10 óra! Teljes lelkesedéssel indultunk át a másik panda-ovihoz, ahol épp láttuk a bocsokat, mielőtt bevitték őket a házba ebédre és a meleg elől. Benn üveg mögül lehett nézni, ahogy az anya és a bocsa esznek.
After that we headed over to the older cubs and saw 5 pandas outside, two on top of trees eating and three actively playing. Before we knew it a huge crowd had gathered around us and our camera’s battery was already at half even though it was only 10AM. We continued to the next panda cub zone where we got to see them perched in trees again before being called inside for lunch and out of the midday heat. From inside we could watch a mama panda and a cub enjoying their bamboos.

Hot pot
Már-már bűn lenne Szecsuánban nem kipróbálni a híresen csípős hot pot-ot (avagy magyarul: kínai fondü). Ezért TripAdvisor-on találtunk egy autentikus hot pot éttermet, ahol elvileg esténként a helyiek órákat állnak sorba asztalért. Mivel mi egy késői ebédre mentünk, hamar kaptunk asztalt. Akik esetleg nem tudják hogy hogy néz ki egy hot pot: egy fazékban hoznak két féle alaplevet, egy csípőset és egy nem csípőset majd külön kell rendelni hozzá a belevalókat amiket az étkezés közben a rotyogó lében kell megfőzni. Mivel ez eltart egy ideig és több körben főnek a kaják ezért általában egy elégé szociális étkezésről van szó.
Traveling to Sichuan and not trying their local spicy hot pot would be a crime so we found the most authentic hot pot place on TripAdvisor: supposedly even the locals line up for hours for dinner. We went for a late lunch so we got a table quickly. For those who don’t know the hot pot is a social meal where there’s a pot in the center of the table containing two broths: a spicy one and a non-spicy one. You order a bunch of raw items that you will cook for yourself in the boiling soup in front of you. Since this takes time and there are many rounds of cooking done it is usually accompanied with good conversation.
A rendelő lap természetesen csak kínaiul volt, de adtak mellé egy papírt az angolra fordított ételekkel meg a hozzájuk tartozó kínai jelekkel. Innentől kezdve egy egyszerű negyed órás “párosítsd össze a jeleket” játék következett. Hamar kidolgoztunk egy rendszert hogy felgyorsítsuk a folyamatot: “2 jel: egy kis házikó és egy táncos + 8 yuanba kerül”.
The order form was in Chinese, but they gave us a translation sheet containing the names of the menu items in English with there corresponding Han characters. After that it was a 15 minute game of “find and match the symbols”, where we quickly developed a code system such as “2 signs: tiny house + dancer and costs 8 yuan” to find the items quicker.
A hot pot nem csak forró volt, de eszméletlenül csípős is. Ákos főleg a csípős külső gyűrűből evett, míg Petra maradt a biztonságos nem csípős középső fazéknál, amely a végére valahogy szintén csípős lett. Hála az égnek volt egy titkos fiók az asztalban zsebkendőkkel tele pakolva, hogy letöröljük könnyeinket.
The hot pot was hot-hot. Both in terms of heat and spiciness. Ákos mostly ate from the outer spicy ring and Petra stuck to the inner non-spicy pot which somehow also turned spicy by the end. Thankfully there were secret tissues in the table to wipe away our tears.
Összességében így is nagyon finom volt, de következőre inkább maradunk a nem csípős opciónál.
All in all it was delicious although next time we might choose the non-spicy option only.
