We did a river cruise down the Li river to Yangshuo.
Li folyó | Li river
Guilinen át folyik a Li folyó, aminek mentén gyönyörű a táj, így befizettünk egy hajótúrára. A kisebbik, babmbusz hajót választottuk, ami ugyan ma már nem bambuszból van érthető okok miatt, de egyáltalán nem bántuk meg. A hajón csak 4 fő fér el egy kis padon ez sokkal privátabb élményt ad nem beszélve arról, hogy nem állnak be mások a képeink elé. A folyó mentén tényleg csodás a táj, még a 20 Yuan-os pénzen is ez szerepel!
Running through Guilin, the Li river is famous for its scenic river banks, so needles to say we had to take a river cruise. We chose the smaller bamboo raft which these days isn’t actually made from bamboo, but rather plastic. The boat fits only four people giving it a private tour feeling and also had the advantage that no one blocked our pictures. The views were splendid, so much so that it’s even present on the 20 Yuan bill.
Kormoránok | Cormorants
A régi helyi halászok egy igen egyedi módszert fejlsztettek ki a halfogásra, kormoránokat használva. Megfigyelték, hogy ezek a madarak milyen ügyesen szerzik be táplálékukat, úgyhogy befogták őket és egy hoszabb kötéllel a hajóikhoz kötötték őket. A kevésbé állatbarát része a dolognak az, hogy a madarak nyakára egy gyűrűt tesznek, ami megakadályozza, hogy az lenyelje a halat, így amikor fogott valamit, a kötéllel visszahúzták a hajóhoz és tulajdonképpen kiköpették vele a fogást. A madarak jutalmul kaptak kisebb falatokat, így tudták őket tovább idomítani. Ma ez a halászat kihalófélben van, nagyjából csak a turistáknak tartják fenn érdekességképpen. A kikitők környékén több kormoránt tartó emberrel is lehet találkozni, és fényképezkedni a madarakkal, ahogy mi is tettük.
The ancient fishermen of the area found a unique technique of using cormorants to catch fish. They saw how skilled these birds were so they caught then and tied them to their boats with a longer rope. The less PETA friendly part of the story is that they also added a ring around their necks to prevent them from swallowing the fish. After they caught something in their beaks they would drag them back to the boat and reward them with smaller bites. These days this type of fishing is obsolete and they only keep cormorants around for the tourists to take photos with.
Yangshuo
Yangshuo egy pici falu a folyó mentén, ahova a környék szépsége miatt mennek a turisták. Az egyetlen helyi érdekesség a vásárló utcácska, ahol sok étterem és szuvenír bolt van. Az itteni konyha két különlegessége a bambuszban főtt különböző húsok és rizs illetve a sörben főtt hal. Mi mást ehettünk volna ebédre, ha nem ezeket? Egyik sem volt életünk legfinomabb étele, de nem mondanánk nemet, ha ezzt szolgálnák fel újra.
Yangshuo is a small village next to the river mostly famous for its surroundings. The main attraction is the shopping street with restaurants and souvenirs to buy. The local cuisine has two specialities: different kinds of meat and rice cooked in bamboo sticks and beer fish, which as you can guess is fish cooked in beer. What else could we have chosen for lunch? Neither dish was the best food in our lives, but they weren’t too bad - especially the bamboo sticks.
Helyi skanzen | Village Museum
Délután ellátogattunk egy másik kis faluba és a helyi skanzenbe (vagy valami olyasmi), ahol a Han népcsoport hagyományait mutatják be. Itt egy hajótúra vitt körbe egy barlangon, illetve a menet közben a parton több különböző táncokat, zenéket adtak elő népviseletbe öltözött emberek.
In the afternoon we went to a local village museum where they presented us the Han culture’s traditions. We took a river tour of a cave and on the river banks people dressed in folkwear danced or played some music for us.
