Meglátogattuk a Shanghai múzeumot, meglepetés kiállítással, és a propaganda poszter múzeumot.

We visited the Shanghai Museum, with a surprise exhibit, and the propaganda poster museum.

Shanghai Museum

Our first stop of the day was the famous Shanghai Museum where there are many ancient Chinese artifacts on exhibit. Since we only arrived there 1 hour after opening, there was another hour long queue for us in the sun, but luckily we had our Kindles and our umbrellas so the time flew by. Entering the museum we first saw the bronze artifacts, but then came the surprise: there was a special exhibit of Sisi (Empress Elisabeth of Austria) and about Hungarian life in the 17th-19th century. We could hardly believe the coincidence that out of all the special exhibits there would be a Hungarian one. We quickly went around to see some of the originals shipped over from Hungary.

Kalligráfia | Calligraphy

A többi teremben visszatért a normális rend: sok-sok kínai szöveg, minimális angol.

After that things went back to usual: a lot of Chinese descriptions and minimal English. The Museum also had many famous paintings, some about places we’ve already been. One of the rooms was dedicated to calligraphy and its different types. We enjoyed this, because by the end we were able to distinguish between official script, cursive script, running script and seal script.

In the section about seals we could see both official and personal, small and large seals, whatever the current trends of the era dictated. We also learned that seal making is considered as an art form and they have their own fashion.

Pénzek | Currencies

A többi termet bejárva láttunk különböző pénz típusokat - rengeteg fém és papír pénz volt kiállítva.

We also saw many coins and paper money from different eras, the coins were especially interesting with their weird shapes.

Shanghai Propaganda Poster Museum

In the afternoon we headed to a museum containing a private collection of propaganda posters recommended by Jules. The museum itself was in the basement of a residential building, which was a bit hard to find, but we knew what we were looking for. There was a bunch of posters from the communist Mao era and since the museum was targeted towards an international audience there were a lot of English descriptions as well (finally).
