We explored the city on our first full day in Hanoi.
Ho Chi Minh mauzóleum és múzeum | Ho Chi Minh mausoleum and museum
Első teljes napunkon neki vágtunk a városnak, megnéztük Ho Chi Minh mauzóleumánál az őrségváltást majd bementünk a neki szentelt múzeumba. Itt az ő életéről lehet tanulni, amit különböző művészi alkotásokkal, fényképekkel és tőle való idézetekkel mutatnak be. Az épületben volt egy ideiglenes kiállítás, ahol veteránok háborús történetét lehetett olvasni. Nagyon sok szomorú és megdöbbentő dologra emlékeztek vissza ezek az emberek, nem volt jó érzés ezeket olvasni.
On our first full day in Hanoi we started off with Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum from the outside and saw the change of guards there. After that we went to his museum where we could learn about Ho Chi Minh’s life and his teachings. There was also a special exhibit where Vietnam War (or as it is known in Vietnam: American War) veterans recounted stories of the war. It was a very heart-wrenching reading about the atrocities of the battlefield.
Irodalom Temploma | Temple of Literature
Következő állomásunk az Irodalom Temploma volt, ami Konfucius tiszteletére épült még 1070-ben. Ez lett később az első vietnámi egyetem is, ahol a tanulóknak nagyon szigorú vizsgákat kellett tenni a megfeleléshez.
Our next stop was the Temple of Literature which was built in honor of Confucius back in 1070. This later became Vietnam’s first university where pupils had extremely strict exams.
Hanoi-i citadella | Hanoi Citadel
Innen az itenni citadellához mentünk, ami régen a palota is volt, de ma a francia háború bombázásai miatt alig maradt pár épület. A fő épületből irányította Ho Chi Minh és a tábornokai az Amerikával vívott háborút is.
We headed to the citadel that was the old palace, but due to the bombings of the French War only a few buildings are left. The main building was also used as the headquarters of Ho Chi Minh during the American War.
Street food tour
Késő délután elmentünk egy street food túrára, ami nagyon népszerű Hanoiban. A régi negyedben sétáltunk, ahol az utcák az egyes áruk nevét viselik, amiket ott árultak régen. Itt minden harmadik ajtó (vagy bármi hasonló) egy kis étterem, ami csak az 1-2 specialitását szolgálja fel, ezért is volt jó a túra, mindenből a legjobb helyen ettünk.
Az első fogás (és étterem) egy helyi specialitás volt, amit Bún Chá-nak hívnak. Ez grillezett malacdarabokról és rizstésztából áll, amit hideg szószba mártogatva kell enni. A szószban van hal-lé, ecet, citromlé, cukor és ízlés szerint szerint fokhagyma, chili, zöld papaya és egyéb zöldségek.
Következő ételünk egy szárított marhahúsos saláta volt, ami reszelt zöld papayaból, babcsírából, az előbb említett szószból és mogyoróból állt, persze itt is lehetett extra fokhagymát és chilit tenni rá.
In the evening we joined a street food tour which is a popular thing to do in Hanoi. We walked around the old quarter where each street bears a certain merchandise’s name and was dedicated to selling that. Almost every third door lead to a small restaurant which usually serves only 1-2 specialities. The tour was great as it allowed us to taste the best of each treat.
The first course was Bún Chá which is grilled pork with rice noodles that you have to dip into a cold sauce. The sauce is made of fish sauce, vinegar, lemon juice, sugar and then you add garlic, chili, and green papayas to taste.
Our next course was dried beef jerky salad which was made of grated green papaya, bean sprouts, and the previously mentioned special sauce. If you wanted you could add extra garlic or chili.
Harmadik fogásnak egy kis családi helyre mentünk ahol gőzölt rizstésztából készült palacsintát kaptunk, amibe malac és zöldségek voltal beletekerve.
For our third course we went to a small family-owned place where they wrapped pork and vegetables into steamed ricepancakes.
Negyedik helyen ettünk három féle tavaszi tekercset helyi sörrel. Ötödik fogás szárított csirke volt tésztával, itt kezdtük el érezni, hogy annak ellenére, hogy kisebb adagokat kaptunk mindenhol, kezdünk igen tele lenni.
Hatodik helyen vietnámi szendvics és a speciális tojásos kávéjuk fogadott. A kávé azért különleges, mert tej helyett felvert tojás sárgája van benne - kreatív megoldás abból az időből, amikor a friss tej elérhetetlen volt. Utolsó helyen desszertként rizs és kókuszos fagyi várt ránk.
Ennyi étel után nem meglepő, hogy nem maradtunk éhesek, a túra nagyon jó volt, az idegenvezető végig magyarázott az ételekről. Az egyetlen dolog ami nem tettszett az az, hogy félúton eleredt az eső, úgyhogy az esernyőink ellenére is eláztunk a sok séta közben. De még így is megérte erre elmenni. A végén kaptunk egy listát az ételekről és a helyekről ahol voltunk, meg olyanokról is, ahova ez a túra nem megy el idő (és gyomorkapacitás) hiányában.
At the fourth place we ate 3 types of spring rolls accompanied with a local beer. For the fifth course we had chicken jerky with noodles and we also started to feel a bit full regardless of the small portions.
At the sixth place we ate Vietnam sandwiches and a special egg coffee. The coffee was special because instead of milk they used whipped egg yolk - quite a creative solution from the time when they didn’t have access to fresh milk. At the last place we had rice and coconut ice cream.
After so much food we were definitely not left hungry. The tour was great and the tour guide was constantly explaining about the foods and traditions. The only thing that wasn’t too great is that it started raining in the middle of the walk which meant that we got soaked, even with our umbrellas. At the end we received a list of the foods that we ate and a few recommendations of other speciality places that the tour didn’t get to but should visit.
