Dalat: irány a vietnami hegyekbe!

Dalat: to the Vietnamese mountains!

Dalat

A következő utunk a hegyek közé, Dalat-ba vezetett.

Our next city was Dalat (or Da Lat) in the mountains. Due to its French colonial buildings and mountain views it is considered to be the honeymoon city in Vietnam. We didn’t find it much different from the other cities.

Because of the peaks the temperatures can drop to 20°C, causing the locals wear coats, scarf and hats. The bus ride there was around half a day so after arrival we just checked in and had dinner.

Robogó bérlés | Renting a moped

Next day we felt prepared to rent a motorbike. It’s a smaller city with less traffic making it a tiny bit safer. We started off with an hour long ride to the Elephant falls. It’s located in a small village and it reminded us of the Niagara falls, although much smaller. It had no constructed stairway down to the bottom just a handrail to help you climb the rocks.

Surprisingly (or not), there were a few Buddhist temples in Dalat as well. We visited Trúc Lám Temple, which is similar to the one in Nha Trang but it has a nice small park where you can wander around. The monks enjoy gardening here so the gardens were lovely.

Next stop was the Summer Palace which served the last Vietnamese king Bao Dai and his family. The building had an Art Deco style with a few rooms for the king, queen and their 5 children. Even though it’s called a palace, its size was nothing compared to the European royal palaces.

Linh Phuoc Pagoda

We hopped back on the bike and rode to the Linh Phuoc Pagoda. It is decorated with many broken ceramic pieces like a huge mosaic. It even has a dragon statue made out of beer bottles.

Virág Kert | Flower Garden

Utolsó előtti állomásunk egy Virág Park volt. Itt különböző éghajlat növényeit és állatformákra metszett bokrokat lehett megnézni.

For our second to last stop we headed to the Flower Gardens where we saw bushes and plants from all over the world formed into different animals.

Crazy House

A napot a Crazy House, vagyis őrült házzal fejeztük be.

We finished the day at the Crazy House. The architect still lives there and designed it in the impression of an enchanted house from a fairytale. The small buildings look like tree trunks, and you can walk from one to the other on small paths over the roofs. The amorphous walls and the lack of straight lines reminded us of Gaudi’s work. Parts of the complex are still under construction but it operates as a hotel so you can spend days fully enjoying its charm. It started pouring almost immediately after we walked in leaving us soaked at the end of the day - regardless of our umbrellas and raincoats.
